Contrary to Common Belief, Root Canals Should Not Hurt
A top question among endodontics patients is, “do root canals hurt?” While one might suffer from root canal pain leading to the procedure, the procedure should cause pain relief (instead of discomfort). Before starting endodontic treatment, we use local anesthesia to eliminate discomfort during root canal treatment.
Do you feel nervous about the treatment, have a severe gag reflex, or have trouble fidgeting when seated for extended periods? Then, our team can offer nitrous oxide or oral to help you relax throughout your root canal.
Procedure
Root canal treatment is necessary when the pulp, the soft tissue inside the root canal of a tooth, becomes inflamed or infected. Root canals are straightforward. During this procedure, the infected pulp is removed, and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed. Our endodontic specialist can place a temporary crown to strengthen the dental structure if necessary.
Immediately after root canal therapy, we suggest taking special care of your smile. This includes avoiding hard and chewy foods, taking medications as directed, and maintaining excellent oral hygiene.
Furthermore, we suggest scheduling a follow-up visit within a few weeks of completion at our office. We can monitor root canal recovery and place a final dental crown at this visit.
